Trip to Maine
We took a trip to Maine with my husband's parents and we had a great time! No one argued and we all wanted to do the same things, so we all got along great. Unfortunately, after I came home home my camera decided that it didn't want to let me download the pictures onto my computer, so the pictures featured here are ones that my Mother-in-Law took. We went on a lobster boat and from the picture you can see that Drake is unsure about the lobster. He was calling them spiders a few months ago, but I think he knows they are lobsters now. It was a great boat trip: we had front-row seats, I was almost hit with a flying crab that Captain Tom was throwing out of a trap, Nana ate some raw sea urchin (which were green, not black like the ones you see in aquarium petting zoos), we caught the perfect assortment of lobsters (too small, ones to keep, and breeding females), we checked 3 traps, the traps have to soak for 3 days, the trip was about an hour, and I got sick 5 minutes before we docked. It's surprising because I am usually fine on boats, oh well.
We went to the beach every day, even when it was foggy out! And Drake still did his favorite beach past time - chasing seagulls (as seen in the picture)! We didn't play in the ocean very much, but we played a lot in tide pools. We went to 3 beaches: York, Long and Wells. Wells was the best because there were many tide pools among rock out-croppings where you could find lots of sea creatures, and there was plenty of sand to play in. We caught crabs, snails, tiny shrimp, some sort of small sand-burrowing creatures, and some kids cornered a lobster in the rocks that you could see! We also visited the Nubble Light House twice.
This third picture is on the beach that was within walking distance of our cottage. It was a nice small beach that was sandy during high and low tide. Long beach was rocky during high tide and sandy during low tide. We also went shopping, played in the arcade, ate ice cream, I ate good scallops at the restaurant by the light house, a lobster roll (the lobster meat was cold but still yummy) and twin lobsters for lunch with Nana and her friend (the shells were so soft that I could crack them with my hands - Captain Tom said it was molting season so the shells would be soft).

Ooooh, I love Maine! My family has a house in Port Clyde that's been with the family for generations, and its one of my absolute favorite places to go. Where did you stay? That's a shame about your camera....

We stayed in a cottage in York Beach. Yeah - we are still trying to get the pictures off, very slowly because it has to be done one at a time.
